Chris + Nicole: Engagement
Chris + Nicole: Engagement
I've never blogged about an engagement session until now. People who know me know that I am an anti-cold person. So, when Nicole and Chris asked me if we could do an out in the freezing cold, snowy day engagement shoot, I started out cringing of the thought of frostbite! Slowly my brain thawed to the idea and as the days drew closer to their shoot, I was drawing a blank on a fun idea. Then it hit me!
We had just gotten several inches of snow and my children and I were out in the front yard playing in fresh white powder. As we were coming in from the cold winter's nip, my youngest daughter asked if we could have hot cocoa. Light bulb! What better way to warm up an engagement shoot than with hot cocoa! Never to miss an opportunity to hit up the local craft store to hipster up the session, I later headed out the door to get some cool glassware.
Having all of the ingredients right down to the chocolate bar, I realized that this session was going to be absolutely perfect! I even had the butler warmer thingy to keep the cocoa nice and hot. Prep time was super simple and quick. I was able to scout the perfect location the day prior as well as obtained permission to shoot there.
We started with scoping out where we could stow my gear and then I got to work right away with getting set up. I am a big fan of natural light. However, I love to make my clients pop with additional lighting. After the first few poses, all three of us were feeling the chill so I put the camera down and quickly set up the hot cocoa bar.
These two were so easy and amazing to work; I couldn't have asked for a more cheery and fun-loving couple. They loved the hot cocoa and it hit the spot. I'm extremely lucky that the cups I brought didn't crack when I was pouring the hot cocoa into the cold stoneware! Lesson learned, warm up your cups as a precaution! Fortunately we lucked out and nothing cracked or broke!
Just when they didn't think they could have any more fun, we also broke out an old toboggan for some adorable pics. Enjoy the rest as I wanted to keep this a short post. Just remember, any time of year can be a great time to shoot, it's all in how you approach it!
Take care for now all!
